Why am I not doing it?

April 11, 2018

Why am I not doing what will bring me the most joy?  What am I choosing to do instead?  And why?  Sometimes I do choose to do what I really want to be doing; why is that?

With the best intentions -- trying to protect us from pain, the conscious mind can get a bit above itself.  The ego is designed to keep us safe as a separate person yet it can only work with memories of, and judgements about, what it has already seen.  When we are trying to do something new, especially if it is something that comes purely from our hearts, we may not have a frame of reference.  We may have no past experience. And so the ego puts on the brakes.

These days that is pretty common among my clients, as they go for more of what they want in their lives. As smart people they are wary of doing something foolish. Yet as people desiring to be happy in quantities way above the average, they know they'll need to do something different. Be brave and know you are not alone.  If something makes you happy, and it isn't harming yourself or someone else, how about entertaining it as an option? Just daydreaming about it can be fun...
