We can have a version of this "mirror work" all our own.  We begin by stating the obvious fact that we are alive, and very happy about that fact.  And it goes on from there. It is okay to be inspired. It is okay to be cheerful. Stress hormones do not make us smarter. In fact they can even make us less effective as we enter the more survival-oriented "fight or flight" mode. It is hard to thrive when we are trying to survive. The two require different emphasis and behaviours.


How we wake up builds upon how we go to sleep. Feeling grateful, counting blessings instead of sheep like that old song says (Count Your Blessings from White Christmas - Video link). When we can train ourselves to pay attention to the good that is happening all around us it makes us feel better.


While it is popular to think that only negative things are "real." Happy things that occur in our lives are just as real. In the era of fake news, statistically we can place more faith in the good - that the world will continue to survive, children to play, flowers to grow, and a good night's sleep to refresh.


They say that today, and this moment, is a gift; that's why they call it the present. Wishing you well.
